Monday Evening Bible Study - Late Winter 2012
- The Letter of James - During the short time leading to Lent we’ll take a look at the Letter of James. Tradition holds that James was the brother of Jesus and the leader of the Jerusalem church until his martyrdom. James and Paul had different, opposing, views of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. Martin Luther had very strong opinions of the theology of James. Join us each Monday at 7:00 PM as we consider a different perspective of the early Church.
Inquiring Minds - February 2012
- Prophet of Modest Profit: Woody Tasch on How NOT to Get Rich Quick by Thea Sullivan For February we’ll use as the basis for our discussion, an article from the June 2010 issue of The Sun magazine. In this article we meet Wood Tasch, author, venture capitalist, and investor. “As founder and chairman of the Slow Money Alliance, Tasch aims to bring investing back down to earth. We need to curb our addiction to quick profits, he says, and stop our dollars from flying around the globe, perpetuating an anonymous economy of extraction and exploitation. He believes that by investing in local, sustainable food enterprises, we can help restore the soil, build community, combat global warming, and even make a modest profit.” Sound interesting? We think so.
We try to meet in member’s homes the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM for a cozy evening of discussion.
There will be no Inquiring Minds through the Lenten season but we encourage anyone interested, to read How Much Is Enough: Hungering for God in an Affluent Culture by Arthur Simon. We’ll be back in May..
