Hope’s Classroom

The new 2012 Sunday morning Hope’s Classroom will be held in Pearson Fellowship Hall in conjunction with Coffee Fellowship between the two worship services at 9:45.  Programs will vary as topics and presenters become available.  Pick up a cup of coffee and a goody to go with and join us for an hour of interesting topics dealing with the church and society.

Upcoming Schedule:

February 5 – Pastor Joe will lead a follow-up session from a Synod workshop held on Saturday January 28 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church.  This workshop will detail the process to be followed at this year’s Synod Assembly in June when a new Bishop will be elected by voting members of all congregations in our New England Synod.  Bishop Margaret Payne will be retiring this year after serving for two terms as our Bishop.

February 12 - The first of a three week discussion about our Life Together.  One of the most influential Lutherans of our time was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German Lutheran pastor and theologian executed by Hitler at the end of World War II.  What contributions Bonhoeffer would have made to the world had he lived, we’ll never know, but he left a wealth of writings for us to use to follow in his footsteps.    Life Together is a classic of Bonhoeffer’s wisdom and his faith as he lived it.   Week 1 will feature an introduction to the life and times of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.  Weeks two and three will include discussion of the short book Life Together, by Dietrich Bonhoeffer that explains life together in Christ, including the role of personal prayer, worship in common, everyday work, and Christian service.  In short, Christian fellowship.  Look for extra copies of the book in the Alvar Gustafson library.

February 19 - Week two – Life Together

February 26 - Week three – Life Together
